AHMC In Partnership With Aventura Police Department's "Active Shooter Training"

(AVENTURA, FL, (November 20, 2006)– Aventura Hospital and Medical Center recently conducted with The City of Aventura Police Department a special tactics training for special response circumstances such as an active shooter.

The Active Shooter Training program utilizes efficient reality based tactics that instruct first responders how to address potentially violent and armed offenders.  The program was developed in response to the Columbine High School shooting that occurred in Colorado.  Since that tragic incident, Police Departments across the country began to reassess the training and tactics that were taught to initial responding officers at potentially life threatening events.

“In order to counteract a growing trend of active shooter incidents nationwide, the Aventura Police Department in cooperation with Aventura Hospital and Medical Center has begun to focus its training goals to train its entire police force in dealing with an active shooter,” said Cpl. H. Maestre PIO. “In keeping with the highest levels of professionalism, the Aventura Police Department will be conducting this training periodically, introducing to its officers the newest tactics and training in order to continue providing the highest quality of police services to the community.
